My Favorite Instagrams from my 2012 Travels

What a year it was. 2012 Had me on 78 planes, in 7 countries, adjusting to countless timezones, and recharging my iPhone on a relatively unlimited schedule. While I am still madly in love with my Canon 7d, my passion for Instagram exploded this year, driving me to take some 600 photos this year alone. The following are my favorite shots from 2012. I’m sure I’m missing some, but for now, these beauties will do. Check out my Instagram Profile here. Happy 2013 everyone! Leaving Madrid. A bunch of bloggers and their...

The Minute Tour: Foz Do Iguaçu

“Brazilians consider Brazil ‘God’s Country’ – and not just in an esoteric sense.” Adriana leans forward against the back of my chair a row behind me on the double decker bus as she shares this insight. “We have no wars, our soil is fertile, we respect one another, love our country, and our prosperity is at a turning point. It’s God’s Country because it is so divine, and you will know exactly what I mean when you stare at the Iguaçu Falls for the first time. I guarantee the sight will change you.” ‘God’s country;’ almost impossible to imagine a place so exquisite it...

Vlog: Alex in the Devil’s Throat (Cataratas del Iguazú)

In this clip, I visit the center of the Garganta del Diablo, or Devil’s Throat – the most violent section of the Iguazu Falls on the Argentinian side. It’s an amazing and terrifying experience. You’re separated from the water by a see-through catwalk. One slip, and it’s over. Watching the falls pour all around you while mist billows out from the crashing water is almost transcendental. On clearer, drier days, the Devil’s Throat is filled with birds of pray and rainbows. It’s also typical to get absolutely drenched where I’m standing in this...

Vlog: Alex’s First Churrascaria

A Churrascaria (Chu-Ra-Sca-Ria) is a Brazilian barbecue house that specializes in amazing, delicious, savory varieties of grilled meats. Chicken, steak, pork, lamb; you name it, it’s served (who ordered the Chicken Hearts?). Each dish is cut off the skewer in front of you directly on to your plate. Halfway through the meal, I joked I didn’t understand why we weren’t staying IN the churrascaria. No, seriously. They could have just set me up a bed by a table so I could eat and fall asleep at my leisure – literal #foodporn heaven. After this experience, I’ve decided...

Vlog: Alex Almost Dies in 3 Countries at Once

Well this is was certainly a first for me. I don’t think a lot of people can claim they almost died in 3 countries at once. Here I am, trying to describe that I’m at the tripoint border of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay where the Paraná river intersects with the Iguazu river when the banister I’m leaning up against lets loose while I’m filming.  15 seconds of hilarity (and terror) ensue.
